Sunday Notes and Links

Sheaffer Balance Oversize Broad Stub with Montblanc Irish Green bottleI used last week’s favorite, my orange Franklin-Christoph Model 02 with a needlepoint nib more than any other pen, but this week’s favorite fountain pen and ink combination was my Sheaffer Balance Oversize (c. 1935) with a broad stub nib and Montblanc Irish Green ink. It’s not the perfect nib for me but I liked the change from the usual and the Marine Green is gorgeous.

A reminder, the Commonwealth Pen Show (Boston Pen Show) is today from 9am to 5pm in the Union Square Room at the Holiday Inn Boston Bunker Hill (30 Washington Street, Somerville, MA). Nathan Tardiff (of Noodler’s) published a video of what he’ll be bringing to the show. I plan to get the Plymouth Wilderness (green) and King Philip Requiem (purple) inks. Those pens fitted with the Sheaffer Triumph nibs are hard to resist but I’m trying to convince myself that I have enough Triumph nibs. Info about the show is here.

Speaking of pen shows, the Tilburg Pen Show is this coming Saturday (26th) for those of you in or near the Netherlands.

Iroshizuku Inks And Their Meanings, Part 1 – On Fountain Pens // I usually don’t link to ink reviews. But this article is different and will be one of six. Don’t let the title fool you. The english translations are listed, but there’s a concise overview of the ink too.

Edison Premiere Winter Edition (Review) – Pen Pursuit // I love the look of this pen. Lucky for my wallet I know from experience these pens are a tad too thin/light for me to use comfortably for more than 20 to 30 minutes.

The Perception of Scarcity: Is it Worth Chasing “Limited Edition Inks” anymore? — The Gentleman Stationer // I chased bottles of Montblanc Bordeaux, which really is limited since it was discontinued years ago. I’ve never been a fan of hard to find inks such as Akkerman or Bung Box. I recently tried a couple Akkerman inks and wasn’t impressed (except for the bottle). If there’s a MB Limited Edition I think I might like I buy a bottle. If I really like it I might buy a second bottle (a rarity).

Pelikan Blue Black Ink Now Available! – Anderson PensAnderson Pens // *Speaking of scarce inks, Anderson Pens has some Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black ink which isn’t otherwise available in the U.S. This reminded me I had a bottle from past Cult Pens (in the U. K.) order. I like the ink so inked up my favorite Pilot Custom 823 with it. I don’t need more so I won’t horde the Anderson Pens supply.

Sailor Professional Gear Imperial Black – Calligraphy Nut // I love this pen. It’s been too long, time to ink mine up.
