I don’t have much to say this time around. My fountain pen usage is still low. But, it’s time to publish the accumulated links.
On a whim, two weeks ago, I decided to add a bunch of newly inked pens to my currently inked fountain pens. I inked up 10 new fountain pens and took only flushed out five pens.
I didn’t have any plan when I picked the pens to ink up. These were easily accessible (not stored away in a pen case), and caught my eye. It was the same with the inks, although I barely made it beyond the Montblanc inks.
It’s that time of year (dry, indoor heat) where some of my pens give me trouble. Usually, it’s ink that clings to the converter, or the ink evaporates faster. In this case, it was my Sailor Pro Gear Regency Stripe that was the problem. Usually a flawless performer, the ink was constantly stuck at the top of the cartridge. I’d been carrying it in my Fodderstack XL as a pocket carry, so it travels nib up. When I pulled it out to use the ink stayed at the wrong end of the cartridge. A bad trait for a pen used for quick notes. So, it was the first to go.
My three Vanishing Points also left the rotation. I like the Vanishing Points, but I wasn’t using them, so I cleaned them out.
The Visconti Brunelleschi, with Diamine Terracotta ink, wasn’t an enjoyable writing experience, so it was the fifth and final pen to leave the rotation.
Carried over from December
Aurora Optima (medium) with Aurora Black: Despite liking this pen a lot, I haven’t used it much so it still has plenty of ink.
Edison Huron Grande (EF) with Iroshizuku Fuyu-syogun: Another holdover, inked back in August. The pen has gotten a lot of use sitting on my desk, at least compared to my other pens. There’s a lot of ink in that huge barrel so it will keep going for a long time.
Kaweco Brass Sport (EF) with Montblanc Petite Prince Red Fox. This pen has lived in my jeans pocket. Unfortunately, it rarely gets used. But I decided to leave it inked up.
Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand Ultra Black (oblique medium) with Montblanc Bordeaux: A favorite pen and nib along with my absolute favorite ink. It stays until dry.
Shawn Newton Eastman with an Esterbrook #9788 (flexible medium) nib and Montblanc Psychedelic Purple (Beatles) ink. Like the Huron Grande, this pen lives on my desk. I like the ink, and the nib, so the pen remains inked up with a lot of ink left.
TWSBI Go (broad) with Monteverde Emotions Wisdom Purple. I don’t often use a broad nib, so this pen doesn’t get much use. I lift it inked up for those times I want something different.
Visconti Homo Sapien Bronze Age (extra fine) with Iroshizuku Fuyu-syogun: Another favorite pen that will remain inked until written dry.
Esterbrook Estie with an Esterbrook #1555 (firm fine) nib and R&K Blau-Schwartz LE: I like this nib, also called a Gregg nib, but I was hesitant to try another thin nib in this pen, after two previous failures. So, I picked the ink most likely to succeed. The result is a great performing pen which was used to write the draft of this article. Since it took so long to get this article out there was one occurrence of needing to prime the nib.
Fisher of Pens Hermes (fine) with Omas Green: A green ink for a green pen.
Franklin-Christoph Model 02 (medium stub) with Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku Another green ink for another green pen. If my records are right, it’s been over five years since this pen has been inked up.
Franklin-Christoph Model 03 (extra fine) with Montblanc Meisterstück 90 Years Permanent Grey: This pen hasn’t been inked in nearly five years. It’s time.
Pelikan M805 Stresemann (extra fine) with Montblanc Bordeaux: It’s been too long since I inked this pen, so I gave it my favorite ink.
Platinum 3776 Ribbed (ultra extra fine) with Montblanc Psychedelic Purple: Yet another pen that hasn’t been inked in five years.
Sailor Pro Gear King of Pen (medium) with P.W. Akkerman Steenrood von Vermeer: It’s been two months since this pen’s been inked. That’s too long.
I couldn’t ink up just one Sheaffer Balance II, so I inked all three of them, each with ink that matches the pen. The Aspen was filled with Athena Sepia ink. The Crimson Glow got Papier Plum Burgundy ink. The Jade Green was filled with Montblanc Irish Green.
